Bug Hotels - Promoting Biodiversity

Tucked away in a corner of a retail park, there’s an unexpected sanctuary for nature—a bug hotel. While it had been there for some time, the structure was starting to look a little tired. That's where Paneless came in, bringing new life to the space. As advocates for sustainability, we jumped at the opportunity to enhance this existing feature and encourage local biodiversity.
To refresh the hotel, we painted it green (using eco-friendly, non-toxic paint, of course) to help it blend seamlessly into its natural surroundings. We also added green netting to give it a more cohesive, inviting look and to provide a bit of protection from larger creatures. To further support local wildlife, we planted a mix of greenery, focusing on attracting pollinators like bees. By incorporating a mix of small and larger plants, the space not only received an immediate visual boost but also provides better conditions for long-term growth and sustainability. There’s even a small dome shelter for creatures like hedgehogs, giving them a cosy spot to rest.
The bug hotel itself offers a variety of safe, welcoming habitats for a wide range of insects. Projects like this are exactly what we love—bringing life, beauty, and a touch of wildness back into built environments. It’s just one more way we like to get our green thumbs involved and help nature find a home in unexpected places.
